Our client is a leading Japanese trading house dealing with a number of different products and raw materials, ranging across steel, metals, lumber, petrochemical and food products. The headquarters are based in Tokyo and the company itself is listed on the Tokyo and Osaka stock exchanges with an annual turnover of 16 billion USD.
The company has an international network with over 75 locations worldwide. The London Branch is currently involved in the fuel supply to ocean vessels, non-ferrous metals recycling and steel sales in Europe, the Middle East and also Africa.
They are looking to recruit a junior trader to join its Steal Product team (Import, Export, Third country trade).
The ideal candidate:
Although most candidates will have no experience in the industry, what is more important is to be highly motivated to develop your own knowledge and positive about chasing new opportunities. You will also have a good imagination to avoid unseen risks and solve problems quickly. The most successful starters in this position have been able to think outside the box, taken responsibility for their own learning, shown strong resilience and a desire to succeed in a very dynamic and competitive market. The ability to adapt quickly and work well in a team will also be very important. In addition, the role will require being able to work under pressure and prioritise effectively.
-Starting new/maintaining business with suppliers and (new/existing) customers, negotiating contracts and handling problems that may arise after shipment.
-Product research (develop an understanding of metallurgy) -Making internal reports -Travelling to client sites in the UK and abroad (mainly Germany).
-Liaising with colleagues in Japan HQ.
-Total ownership of problems and opportunities encountered.
-Arranging contracts and imports/exports with administration team counterpart.
Language and other Skills:
-Fluency in English and German
-IT skills: Excel skills required (others: Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
-A basic knowledge of Japanese and other European language is preferred
-SAP experience and Driving Licence would be a bonus
Working hours: Monday to Friday 8.45am to 5pm
Salary: £26,000 – £39,000 per annum including bonus in December
Benefits: Monthly travel card paid by the company up to Zone 4 depending on where you live
Daily allowance paid while on overseas business trips
